MioceneMiocene (24-5 MYA)
The Miocene was marked by two major changes of the face of the planet: the explosion of grasses and sedges at the end of the previous time period, the Oligocene, which began to alter the planet's ecosystems and the birth of the modern mountain ranges, which began to alter the planet's climate. Together, these two factors altered the fates of all the inhabitants of the planet mammals, archosaurs and birds...only in different ways.
In North America, the new gracile armoured dinosaurs and short-faced horned dinosaurs eagerly took to the new grasslands that began to sprout, especially in the middle of the continent. Their relatively short, wide jaws were better suited for mowing grass than the more primitive jaws of their sauropod rivals, and so the latter began to be pushed to the edges of North America, where the forests still endured or even dominated. "It was a rainy summer day when I first met her. Both of us arrived to the meeting at the same time; her walking, and me flying. I brought a good present for her (a radioactive one, just like dad told me once ago). I was really nervous, I mean, I didn't knew her and I was betrothed with her since I were just a larva. Suddenly she said "Hi", then I shouted "Hi. The name's Jim. Glad to meet you". She smiled and answered "Me too. My name is Clara". Then I remembered, the present. I showed it to her. She seemed so happy with it and she took it and soon began to dig the nest. I really don't know why (she's ridiculously huge... and a bit scary...),

The next day
Next day Nighthawk and Hiccup returned. In a moment the yearlings were all over them both. I had to warn the little ones, for as they jumped up Hiccup I saw him sway. He does not stand firm on that unnatural foot and I suspect my boisterous bunch can make him fall down. "Let's find Hiccup a nice boulder or log to sit on" I heard Nighthawk say next to me. I saw what 'sit on' for a human means when not much later I saw Hiccup sit comfortably on a fallen log. All yearlings sat down on their haunches next to him, looking very smug.
"This is comfortable for him" Nighthawk told me. "When he kneels like you saw him do yesterday, or when he sits on his haunches like us, it eventually starts hurting. I saw him rub his stump yesterday evening."
"Stump, you mean...?"
"He can remove the iron foot and the end of his natural flesh still s
